Magnaflux

Magnetic particle inspection (MPI) or Magnaflux as it is more commonly known, is a non-destructive procedure that uses magnetic flux (similar to a dye) to highlight imperfections in a metal. Crown Race Gears are first bathed in an iron oxide solution before being subject to a magnetic field that causes the magnetic flux to concentrate around any imperfections in the surface and become visible under UV lighting.

This process is regularly performed on randomly selected gears as part of our comprehensive quality control program. For racing and high demand application, Magnaflux inspection is available by special request on new gear orders and as preventative and continuing maintenance on Crown Race Gears currently in use.
